Paul Bird Motorsport rider Glenn Irwin has come out on top in the opening official test of the year at Donington Park.
The Northern Irish rider went quickest overall after setting the lap record around the GP layout, a 1:27.015 on Saturday afternoon. This came after Irwin smashed the lap record on Good Friday, beating the record set by Yorkshire rider Jason O’Halloran in 2023.
Leon Haslam was next in second after going quickest in the opening session on Friday. However, that was not enough for him to sit on top of the table; 0.320 separated the pair at the end of day two.
Reigning champion Kyle Ryde, onboard the Nitrus Competiton OMG Racing Yamaha R1, finished third, beating Danny Kent on the McAMS Martrain Yamaha.
The top five would be completed by returnee Bradley Ray, who was back on track for 2025, albeit not with omg racing but with former BSB teams champions, Fleetwood-based Raceways Yamaha, only 0.587 off the top on his return to the championship.
